Re: Arnie done his hamstring

So is Moyes right or wrong to focus his attention on the league and not cups?
As a glory-starved punter of course I'd love to win a cup and wouldn't particularly be bothered if we got relegated. Well, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
However, the manager has been bought in on a short contract with a huge cash bonus for keeping us up. He doesn't support the club and we've only been on his radar twice a season at best for his entire career. He's got virtually every decent member of the squad out injured too.
What would you do if this was, say, Huddersfield and you were manager there? One, maybe two million for keeping them up?
It's not Moyes fault really, is it? Who put such heavily weighted incentives to remain in the league into his contract to start with? Surely that's where to point the finger?

All the more reason for our owners to haggle the life out of deals for players which ultimately breaks down and we get left with nothing.
Aint like we need anyone after all...

I can't say that I've always agreed with AO(B)I, but he's absolutely right about the FA Cup.
If we don't want to go for the cups then we may as well fold and die as a club. It's as simple as that. What's the point in our club existing otherwise?

Your Mum -
No, you're not putting some perspective on anything. You're slagging off the oldest cup competition in world football, the only domestic competition that the club you claim to support have ever won. In your shortsighted view a club of our stature, one of the richest and best supported in the world, cannot and should not put out a strong team in a few games in the cup.
So let me ask a question; what is the point of entering the FA cup if you're not playing to win? If you had your way we should just throw in the towel in the 3rd round. So wouldn't it make sense if we just didn't bother to enter a team in the first place. Same with the league cup. Would that make moronic cunts like you happy?

I really don't know why cunts like you support West Ham. I mean why do you think nearly 5000 are going to Wigan (it could have been a lot more) ? It's not in the hope that we go out of the cup with a whimper. They, along with most true fans, want to see us go on a cup run and enjoy a bit of glory. After all it's only 38 years since we last won anything. Which means that the majority of our support have never experienced the joy of winning a trophy and would love to have something to genuinely celebrate.
But not you. Apparently you'll be dancing in the streets celebrating Premier league survival - on your own.

Blimey I remember a time when we rested players in the LEAGUE (v Pompey IIRC) and concentrated on the FA Cup (the following Monday)... great trip to manchester... than fuck we took it seriously and played City off the park... I mean when I'm on my deathbed what would I have remembered more... ANOTHER prem game v Pompey... or QF of the FA cup in which we took it fucking seriously and went up there and gave them a footballing lesson... come back Pards all is forgiven

I really don't see the point of Moyes going out there if it wasn't to talk to the player. It's not 1987 anymore. You don't have to go and see players like that. You can get full 90 min coverage of him for every professional game he's ever played.

I’m firmly if the same view as Pards with the cups - a wins a win, and does wonders for confidence etc. You need to set out to win every game and build on each one. Resting most of the team and then being awful against a lower league team does no one any favours (see forest away). Also bringing in 4-5 youngsters for one game doesn’t teach you or them anything - just because they don’t perform doesn’t mean none of them are good enough, it just means they aren’t all ready to play together and the other senior outfield players weren’t good enough to carry them. It’s like when England make 6 changes for a friendly and then just discard all those players. You can only truly see if a player is good enough by giving them a chance in with the first team.
